This family wanted a photo session to document an important milestone. Their little lady turned one! I am so excited that I was able to capture her taking a few steps. Welcome back to my 365 project and the And Then We Snapped Blog Circle! I’m sharing images from September 7-13, which was an incredibly busy week! For the first time I dropped BOTH of my kids off at pre-school. It was little more emotional that I thought it would be, and my house seemed a bit quiet and lonely….but that was short-lived! My little energetic loves filled the house with (beautiful!?) noise a couple of hours later. Besides starting preschool, the two girls also started dance class, and my in-laws came up from Texas for a visit. I’m surprised I had time to even think about taking out my camera, but I did manage to click a few times….. and then we snapped | week 7

Welcome to week 7 of ‘And the we Snapped.’ I’m doing a little bit of catch-up this week, so I’m sharing two weeks of my images. These are from August 17 to August 30. We were trying to make the most of the final weeks of August before the kids started school. We made several trips to the arboretum, took walks around the neighborhood, had a follow-up appointment on the little one’s broken arm, and the hubby and I even squeezed in a date night. Doing this 365 project is really forcing me to attempt some images sans kids…we’ll see where it takes me

It’s definitely not in my comfort zone! I was also recently challenged to do a 30-day photo project and am starting to brainstorm ideas-thinking of pushing myself and making it faceless. Hmmmmm!?!? my minnesota : june edition (water, water, everywhere!)

June was full of water, and it came in a variety of forms. We (finally!) welcomed the return of warmer days, which meant playing in the sprinklers, splashing in swimsuits, and visits to our local beaches and lakes. We also experienced heaps of rain, which actually caused some flooding, but at least it was was good for a little puddle-jumping in the rain boots! Here’s what our Minnesota in June looked like! butterflies & flowers at the landscape arboretum

We took our girls to the MN landscape arboretum this weekend to see the butterfly exhibit. Both girls loved the butterflies, as well as the other sights & sounds of the arboretum. The girls felt like princesses in their own secret garden (one even donned an “Elsa braid”!). They turned sticks into magic wands, splashed in the fountains, explored the gardens, and made plans for coming back to this magical land very soon!

april showers bring…may dandelions

We had lots and lots of rain in April….and in may we got lots of dandelions. Fortunately (??), my girls are expert dandelion pickers. We found these “flowers” everywhere…at the lake, at our house, on walks, in parking lots….My daughters put them in bags, in their pockets, in vases, in their hair….you get the point. Let’s just say I’m glad June is finally here

my minnesota: may edition

I am so excited to join an amazing group of Minnesotan photographers for the first time this month as part of a blog circle called “My Minnesota.” May was a very challenging month for me with my photography, but in the best possible ways! I participated in an intense, but amazing photography workshop, and also stepped out of my comfort zone when I photographed a new kind of subject. You don’t have to look at my body of work long to see that I primarily photograph people. But, I recently took on a project photographing the sights of Plymouth, MN for the popular Plymouth lunch spot Dufner’s Deli, which is finishing up a remodel. This was quite different for me, as there were no children to observe or entertain, no rapid-fire clicking to capture (quickly) moving subjects, no outfits to coordinate, no moving of furniture to find the best window light and no scheduled session time. It was just me, my camera, and my vision. And. I. Loved. It. Don’t get me wrong, I am truly passionate about capturing the heart, soul and memories of children and families, but this was therapeutic in a way that I didn’t expect! So, even though […]

April’s melting snow and warmer temperatures made way for trips to the park, puddle jumping, and muddy adventures. We had so much outdoor fun, that I’ve decided to share our shenanigans in two parts. So, here are some of my favorites of my silly girls from the beginning of April.

scrub-a-dub, sisters in a tub

Well, the spring weather came for a couple days and then it left again :(. We got another snowstorm last week, and in an effort to keep things positive, I let the girls go swimming…in the bathtub! They were very excited to get such a treat, and stayed in the water well past the raisiny-finger stage. I had fun watching them “swim” and play, and was so intrigued at watching them interact with each other. They are close in age, but have starkly different personalities. My little one is fierce and independent, observant and a real dare-devil. But, as I watched through my lens, I noticed she’s still very much in awe of her big sister, imitating her at every chance. My first-born is gentle, cautious, emotional and kind-hearted. Can you guess who each girl is?
