in the cold winter light

It was SO nice to have a touch of real spring temperatures this weekend! I can’t wait until it’s here to stay for a while. In the meantime, here’s a collection of images I took in the beautiful (but freeeeezing!) golden hour light this winter. My daughters are not exactly in love with the frigid temps. My oldest even commented during one of our outings, “mom, you can take as many pictures as you want when its warm out!” Glad she’s on board. And, don’t worry, they actually fight over who gets to go out on photo excursions with mom! Once again, I must give a nod to the talented Summer Murdock, instructor of The Magic of Light workshop at Bloom Forum, who provided much inspiration for these images.

Baby Girl W

After photographing one bouncing baby boy after the next (all too precious for words), I got the news that baby girl W had arrived.  Eeek! FInally some pink!  I met Baby girl W at just one week old and she was simply bursting with sweetness! I held the session in her lovely home, which was full of beautiful natural light. Big sister was gone with Daddy to do some special big sister things, so it was just a quiet house with mom, baby and myself. Despite an early arrival into this big world, Baby girl W was one strong little lady, and quite lively for the first portion of the session! Soon she was ready for a little nap. But first, she got sweet cuddles from momma. Then, it was time for her special pacifier….Baby W’s favorite one….the one that they don’t have a back-up of….the one that her mom said was a gift from someone and (so far) can only be  found in a little store in Colorado (which a loooong way from MN!!).  She held on to it with her strong little fingers though! Snow Fun!

Being a native Texan, I haven’t gotten used to driving in the snow, or shoveling the snow, or pushing a shopping cart through the snow, and I may never. But, I do really love taking pictures in the snow! A lot. And, it’s even more wonderful when in the middle of a week with temps in the single digits, poof! we got a balmy day with a high of 28 degrees! I was so excited for the “warmer” weather, that after picking up my oldest daughter from preschool, we ditched our coats and went outside for a few minutes of snow play and pictures. Don’t get me wrong, it was still cold out there! Here are some of my favorites…
